A Theoretical Description of Node-Aligned Resonant Waveguide Gratings

چکیده
Waveguide gratings are used for applications such as guided-mode resonance filters and fiber-to-chip couplers. A waveguide grating typically consists of a stack single-mode slab grating. The filling factor the with respect to mode intensity profile can be altered via changing waveguide’s refractive index. As result, propagation length is slightly sensitive index changes. Here, we theoretically investigate whether this sensitivity increased by using alternative geometries. Using rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA), factors modes supporting more than one simulated. It observed that both long lengths large sensitivities changes achieved nodes higher-order modes.

Resonant waveguide device with vertical gratings.
Transmission resonant filters in a waveguide with vertical gratings have been realized in silicon on insulator wafers. Experimental studies of fabricated devices show a broad stopband of approximately 19 nm in the center of which exists a narrow transmission band of approximately 0.5 nm with a quality factor of approximately 3000. These resonant cavities are useful for laser cavities, switches,...

A colorimetric sensor providing a direct visual indication of chemical contamination was developed. The sensor is a combination of a chemically sensitive dye layer and a resonant waveguide grating. Enhancement of the light absorption by the photonic structure can be clearly seen. The detection is based on the color change of the reflected light after exposure to a gas or a liquid. Low-cost fabr...

The use of a complex short-period (Bragg) grating which combines matched periodic modulations of refractive index and loss/gain allows asymmetrical mode coupling within a contra-directional waveguide coupler. Such a complex Bragg grating exhibits a different behavior (e.g. in terms of the reflection and transmission spectra) when probed from opposite ends. More specifically, the grating has a s...
متن کاملThermal Behavior of Waveguide Gratings
We investigate the design of binary grating structures, e.g. resonance waveguide filters (RWFs), with subwavelength feature sizes, taking the temperature dependence of different material parameters into account. Our final goal is to demonstrate devices with athermal operation. We design the binary grating structures to be made in polymer substrates, such as polycarbonate (PC), due to their pote...
